GT750A Oil Pump Arm Sticking

Post by GTNelly »

I'm just in the process of completing a refresh of my GT750A (owned since 1997) and I've found an issue with the oil pump

I've found that the lever arm sticks on its return stroke about 2/3rds way back

The lever arm will return when driven back by the carb linkage but not on its own

The arm doesn't appear to be catching externally so I'm concerned that there's something wrong inside, how critical I don't know!

I do have a spare pump I picked up a few years ago but not sure it 1) is correct for the bike and 2) works!

I guess my questions are:-

- is an oil pump easy to disassemble, does anyone have photos of a strip down?

- how do I check that my spare oil pump is for a 76 GT750 (any markings)?

- is there any way to check that my spare pump is working?

So close to getting the bike back on the road so any help would be fantastic

Many thanks

Neil

Hi, nothing to worry about, they all do this, a little bit on the forum about this if you do a search on the topic ;)
The pump is fine  All the gt750 pumps will work on all models.
Google "pink possum suzuki gt750 oil pumps"
Cheers.

Hi
As Roger says the oil pump arm only returns back down after several revolutions and although very reliable can be damaged by owners trying to force it back.

Guys, this is great news, thanks

The pump has always worked fine and I couldn't understand why there would suddenly be a problem

Means I should be back on the road soon!

Thanks again

On the question of my spare oil pump, how do the 750 pumps differ from the 550 or 380?

Are there any external identifying marks so I can determine if mines a 750 pump?

If you look at the pink possum site I posted earlier you will see a subject headed which pump do I have. There are some numbers on the actuating arm to identify it. :D
