Are the studs pulling out of the barrels, or are the nuts loose on the studs Terry?
Just noticed, they are bolts, so it looks like helicoils are needed. Or try Loctite studlock. It might work if they are 'just' worn.

He took it away yesterday, to drill and put inserts in, and put a new crush washer on the sump plug, as it was the one thing he didn't change, and it was dripping oil from the plug. I also noticed a spot or two of water, so THAT is being looked into too !

Heartily fed up now.

Hi Terry, the endless list of problems that you're having with your kettle sounds just like the problems I've had with mine, the only difference is the time scale. My list of problems have all happened over a 32 year period, whereas yours have been condensed into one month. Looking on the bright side, mine's now running like a dream and I'm sure that with a bit of time, patience and money yours will too. Keep positive Terry, it'll work out fine I'm sure. :D Looking forward to seeing you on your perfect kettle at the clinic rally in June.
Look, my paintwork hasn't got "Fish scales" :x they're "Dragon scales" right!!! However, after some thought, I will accept "Black Marlin" or "Swordfish", but definitely not "Haddock" or "Cod".
