The pipe is held on the valve with a metal sleeve clip. Slide off the clip then pull pipe off valve. Then unscrew valve with socket or ring spanner

I think your idea of giving it a damn good thrashing sounds like the best plan :D

Let's face it fellas, these bikes were designed to be used on a regular basis, not infrequently. Back in the day I used to just jump on the bike and ride it, never a thought for this sort of thing. It just went :D

Can't help but grin to myself when I read a post about someone being concerned that their 2T bike is smoking too much or oiling a plug. Back in the day (in our ignorance) we used to do things like increase the pump rate &/or add 2T to the tank to make them smoke more and the throttle was purely an on/off type arrangement :lol:
