Mystery part ???

Post by Skyguyz »

So I started the teardown of my M series Kettle. When I removed the oil drain bolt two mystery parts fell into the oil trap. A small spring, (*Not shown) and this little thingy.

I could go through my parts manual page by page but I'm sure someone knows what this is.

*Not sure if it came out with the oil or if it was a "dropped part" the the PO could not retrieve and fell off the bike when I removed the pipes.

Thanks

It looks like the stopper, cam for the cam shifting drum. Not a big deal, I put it back in and and it shifts fine. First more than a few of the "I didn't realize it until......" moments
I will replace the crank seals and inspect the transmission when I have it apart anyway.

DOH!

Yes,it's the detent pin & spring for the gear selector, providing nothing's moved in the box just put it back in, or do it when you have the motor stripped down,
Your not the first to remove the "wrong Bolt, common mistake  8-)
Cheers.

Yes, I put it back and everything works fine. I referenced the parts manual for the oil drain bolt and it was less than vague about where it is located. Not knowing this bike,

I know I am not the first or the last to do this. Lesson learned. The posts on this were nothing short of remarkable. This is hands down the best help resource for anyone

doing anything with this machine. Thanks again,

Ah, the old 'remove the detente plunger instead of the oil drain bolt which is next to it' trick!
Easily done, and most of us have done this at some time, in fact Paul used to be known as 'Wigwam' as he spent so much time replacing de tents that he screwed up.....
Proof that four strokes are over complicated
