Gearbox detent holder

Post by bobhenry999 »

Guys,

I have a bit of an oil leak coming from the gearbox detent holder bolt/plug (The 19mm one at an angle) Can I just remove it, replace the washer and put it back or will I disturb something doing this ?

You can indeed. Only thing that will fall out ( apart from the detent spring and plunger) is the oil, so have a large catch can ready.

Make sure you don't move the gear shift lever when you take it out and nothing moved before you replace it ;)

The only thing that the detent plunger does is to create a stopping point for the shift drum so that it "stops" rotating when the next gear is selected. It is important not to lose it, of course, but with the shift drum in place, it makes no difference if the shift lever is moved.

When you replace it (and the oil), just shift back into neutral and get the thing started.
