DISC PADS

Post by wardy »

Hi guys, I'm looking to replace my front pads soon and I was wondering what other people recommend. I'm running the std set up on a 76 A model apart from braided lines.
I'm looking for keen braking; not bothered about wear.
cheers everyone.

Hi Andy if your looking for keen braking..you'd better buy a GSX750RR I believe they stop very well...even in the rain
I think the last set I bought for the GT750A were from EBC,they stop pretty good,
No red wear indicator line though,
The OEM ones do,makes it easy to see when getting down on Pad material

Hi Andy, long time no see.
I've just completed a full overhaul of the front brakes on FAB, that's everything including fitting a pair of very nice, like new, undrilled discs and two sets of EBC pads. Braking now is very good as it should be, but once again I'm cursed with the dreaded brake squeal and have gone through all the known remedies to try and stop it, without success as yet.

It squeals like a banshee and it's really embarrassing that something so simple can't be sorted easily, so if anyone can suggest something that I haven't tried yet (my list is too long to post here) that's worked for you, please feel free to offer your advice, pleeeease :?

Regards, Steve W.
Look, my paintwork hasn't got "Fish scales" :x they're "Dragon scales" right!!! However, after some thought, I will accept "Black Marlin" or "Swordfish", but definitely not "Haddock" or "Cod".

The noise can come from the vibration between the piston and the metal back of the pad when pressure is applied. Copper grease on the pad back can help

Just got back from a 100 mile ride and when I set off the brakes were still squealling like a pig, but by the time I got back the squeal has almost gone, so it may just have been a case of the pads and new discs bedding in.
However if anyone else is suffering with this very annoying problem, here's a list of all the things you can do to try and stop it.
1. Put a thin metal shim between the back of the pads and the pistons.
2. Clean the face of the pads and the discs with brake cleaner. (Ebay £5)
3. Put a very thin film of silicone grease around the outside of the floating pads.
4. Make sure all fixings are properly tightened.
5. Buy some adhesive anti vibration pads (sticks on the back of the brake pads) off ebay, about a fiver.
6. File the sharp corners off the leading and trailing edges of the pads.
7. Try a different type of brake pad.
8. Try copperslip or a specific anti squeal grease on the back of the pads (ebay again £1)
9. And if all that fails like it did with me, be patient and maybe after a few miles the brakes will bed in and become squeal free.
Hope this helps.
Steve W.

WD40's better.
Straight on the discs, it'll stop the squealing - much like pork scratchings.
Proof that four strokes are over complicated
