The old bit of course. As if you were acting polite and had to ask. Has the paint started to peel yet?

So, carrying on with my own daily rider tank, a chance to experiment with decal application.

I normally cover a candy coat with a few coats of binder so I can flat it back to a smooth surface without damaging the candy.

I didn't do that this time so the surface was a bit rough. I left the candy to dry for a few days before putting on the decals. I then left the decals for a further week before lacquering yesterday.

I did 2 mist coats which I left for 10 mins each then put on 3 wet coats. A bit excessive but paying the price for not having a smooth surface to begin with.

there are about 3 or four small bubbles in the lower orange strip on both sides so not there yet it seems.

I think the best way is to make sure the surface is super smooth for the decals as I am sure if it isn't it encourages bubbles. Having to apply a lot of wet coats I think causes problems. I think that you should also apply your two mist coats and then leave for 24 hours to go completely dry before finishing the lacquering

Is anyone else on here putting on decals and getting similar issues?

Anyway, looks ok. Bit of denibbing as it was a bit warm for lacquering so some tiny feathery bits from the gun as usual.

I normally put the Base and colour on the same day and two mist coats of lacquer to seal the water Base - leave a day or two then lightry flat with 1000 grit w&d put the decals on and put another two or three coats of lacquer straight away
