My bikes aren't classed as investments, they're classed as fun. If they make a bit of money when sold, great.
Couldn't agree more Sir !!!

I find looking at the completed listings on Ebay if its in green its sold if it hasn't reached the reserve the maximum bid is usually a guide of what someone is willing to pay for it hence the value, you see bikes listed at silly prices sitting for months or years , and the famous saying that I wish I had a half crown for every time I've heard " These are going on EBAY for £xyz" I reply going and selling are 2 different things.

Yes I do the same too. In general I have noticed that unsold ones reach about 2/3rds of the asking price, which gives an idea of how much the asking prices are inflated by. The odd one sells for a silly price but possibly a fake bid from a friend trying to up the price. Then its relisted stating that the buyer made no contact.

I'm afraid I don't agree. For some reason, people are really reluctant to bid when there is a reserve or a high starting price. If you look at bikes that have started off at very low start prices, the bid performance is different. Just my two penn'orth :)

Better to use a classified ad and a realistic price. Flat fee not % of the selling price, and you can deal with potential customers adjusting the price to suit.
Though the saying 'there's a mug born every minute' is probably true, they may not have the money you want, or even want your particular bike or model if they have tbe coin.
People will pay what it's worth IN THEIR ESTIMATION not necessarily what the seller thinks he can get for it.
Too many nowadays just building bikes to sell and not riding. Better to buy one with some miles on that's settled down and sorted perhaps.
There seems a lot of 'baby boomers' trying to relive their youth and have the wherewithall to do it. Not sure about the generations following us though.

I can’t see a price drop in such a specialised subject, cost of everything is going up so all prices move along with it. People like B. Sheene S.Mcqueen, M.Brando keep things alive not in a biking way but the image creating a want. As for Bikes on eBay who believes the Bike is a good one. I spend too much time looking for the scam and fortunately a few members do the same. I do not think I could buy a bike off eBay because it felt stressful last time with deposit distance etc. I think a lot of you are lucky because when I see something I like it’s not in Kent it’s as far North as you can get! Now try and look in your local paper for a Kettle you won’t find one.

Exactly my point these people keep the image alive but ask anyone under 35 who they are, as they dont have Facebook profiles ect they wont know so in 20 years when they are the people with the money to spend GT750.s ect wont be the top of their list, we will all either have one or be dead, so demand will drop, thats my theory, also on things like Vincent Black shadows ect you dont see many on the road and if you do the average rider is about 150.

Hi,the young ones get off their sports bikes & don't give my Kettle a glance at motorcycle Cafes,it's a dying market..literally :tw It's a case of being old enough to remember the 70's & the machinery that was available, these days it's out with the old & in with the new...who gets their Fridge, washing machine,TV's fixed these days, nobody :?: :( Some people here in Australia making a nice living buying up bikes in the U S...& selling for silly money...but the bubble has to burst sometime when buyers get to old to ride or pass on
Cheers.

I feel 150 but my point is I know what aVincent is but it was before my time so I really have no notion to buy one apart from the fact that I couldn't afford it I would put something like that which is a museum piece in a different class from a mass produced bike from the seventies that was probably only meant to have a lifespan of a few years before rusting away to nothing. Thankfully we have people like us to keep them going until we are all gone , like Roger said in the last post we now live in a throw away world my 2 sons who are 17 and 19 probably couldn't fix a puncture on a pedal bike, when we were their age we were rebuilding bikes and engines from scratch
