The MOT for my '73 RD350 (which was already registered as Historic) ran out on the 10th May so I SORN'd it so I could reapply once the MOT exemption rule kicked in. I've just reapplied for the free tax and the system automatically acknowledged that the bike is over 40yrs old and MOT exempt so just clicked the "I declare" box and it's job done.
So that's me & the RD all set for the off for it's 1st outing of the year to the Ace Blue Haze gathering for a full English, sweet :P

Yes I did the same thing Chris - I didn't think the online system would work for the first time but as you say it did so I've avoided hours spent queuing in the Post Office so double result!!

Just did the same with my GT380. Success! Tried it with the 550. Failure! The 380 was registered in October 76 and the 550 registered in May 77. Confuserated

Looks like SORNing and then re-taxing is the way to go then. My GT550A is due MOT in June. Its already registered as Historic for tax. First registered 01/01/77 so will see what happens.
