The major drawback that I see with not putting the bike through an MOT is that you lose the ' history '.
Checking old MOT's correlates the mileage and shows that the bike has been used on the road instead of festering in a shed.

Just take a (dated) picture of the speedo. That'll give you a record to keep and be a lot less than a MOT.

Dear all,

Just so you know it works. The bike is already on historic tax from last year. MOT ran out late July so I SORNED the bike last week. Re taxed the bike today on line (you have to wait 5 days from date of SORN). There is a section during the taxing process which identifies that the bike is over 40 years old. You have to tick a box to declare that the bike hasn't been substantially modified. That's it, bike is now taxed and MOT exempt.

My Thanks to Slosher as he has also confirmed he done it this way also.

Regards

Martin

Surely keeping receipts and a photographed & written history of ownership are a far better way of retaining the "history" of a bike. Forking out £25 for what is now a worthless piece of paper to a Historic bike proves nothing more than someone has squeezed the front brake lever & tooted the horn. I really can't get my head round the idea myself :?
