Just phoned DVLA up (not tight like some Yorkshire chap on here) and explained the situation to him and he was quite helpful in telling me the MOT is automatically introduced as soon as your vehicle becomes historic, but I can go ahead and get my bike checked out if I feel more comfortable. Not sure if they would give an MOT certificate out though, would probably need a written receipt explaining the work that's been carried out with proof of maintenence for my own records and future reference.

Can't see you getting a cert unless you pay for a test, which negates being mot exempt.
You didn' expect it to go ok straight away did you?

Thats what the gentleman said to me Alan, I don't need an MOT cert now its historic but its entirely up to me if I choose to do so. As far as I'm concerned it has gone ok.

I read somewhere that Plod pulled a biker up (riding a tax exempt historic bike) and didn't know about the automatic MOT exemption.
There's a surprise, one department not telling another what's what.
Untaxed, or untested vehicles are usually impounded and taken off the owner at that time............

I suppose that when I get my tax reminder next year Alan and attempt to tax it online as historic, if its rejected then that would surely explain that I need an MOT, so I guess we'll have to wait and see and for price of an MOT then may just get one

Just realized there's a simple answer to this.
What have the J model owners been doing since this came in, come on guys shout up!
They qualified as soon as law came in a few years back.

It's nowt to do with the bike owners. It's the dozy DVLA and dozier plods that haven't a clue.

Might just be an idea to carry a filled in V112 (MOT exemption declaration) on each bike for when (if) they get pulled.
