Post by zzr1200s »

Hi have just become the proud owner of a 1974 GT750 L ,the bike has been 95 % restored missing few bits ,starts and runs fine but has a issue with pinking on acceleration and hunting on deceleration ,engine has been rebuilt by previous owner retired pilot/aircraft fitter ,have cleaned carbs fitted new rubber connector between carbs and engine ,checked oil pump setting ,mixture screws set at 3/4 of a turn out ,carb balance seems ok ,diaphragms in carbs ok ,has electronic ignition so can,t see how to check ,any advise please Steve .

If it's Accent from Germany, there's an LED for timing.

Alternatively, take the plugs out and lay them on the head connected and then either use a dial gauge or fit a timing wheel to the alternator and set the pointer to TDC with a piston stop.

Then turn ignition on and slowly turn the motor over with a wrench and carefully watch for the exact point that the plugs fire. The PO may have got that wrong and may have used teh "propeller" which has about 10 degrees of slop in it before the rotor is tightened up and should never be used to set timing.
