Fish

Post by mizzytheman »

Just got in from work when there was a knock on the door. I said to the wife “if that’s another saleman selling windows, facia boards or gardening services I’m going to throw him down the path”. Anyway, it was a guy selling fish, dead ones that is, and had come all the way from Lincolnshire and was trying to build up business in other parts of the country.

Good on him I say, I do love people who put the effort in to expand their business. He asked did I prefer cod or haddock, “ooh definitely cod” I said. I then told him I’m attending a rally in Yorkshire at the end of June were some of the best fish and chips are sold. He Said “I sell a lot of fish in Yorkshire. They prefer haddock in North Yorkshire and cod in the south”. He then said “they’re a funny lot in Yorkshire, whenever you try to sell them something the first thing they say is “Haar much”. Well, i nearly weed myself laughing.

Yeh, I know what you mean mate.

In Grimsby (Linc's) where I live, there are lots of guys with "fish rounds" who travel, some as far as London to sell fish and earn a crust. This is an industry that has grown massively since the 1970's cod wars, which devasted Grimsby and left the town on its knees.
As for the cod/haddock debate, in Grimsby and most of Linc's the preferred fish is haddock, with cod only being used for fishcakes. This was a tradition started by the towns trawlermen, who said cod being a "bottom of the sea feeder" was a dirty fish and haddock was the tastiest and best fillet you can buy.
Look, my paintwork hasn't got "Fish scales" :x they're "Dragon scales" right!!! However, after some thought, I will accept "Black Marlin" or "Swordfish", but definitely not "Haddock" or "Cod".

Ah now it makes sense  the reason your bike is painted to look like cod scales is because it’s a dirty two stroke :tw
They're rubbish them Jap bikes lad they won't last five minutes! you want to get yourself a nice Royal Enfield!
A quote from my old dad 8-)

I started out with nothing and I’ve got most of it left!

Don't mind cod or haddock really. Or most other fish - including Steve's scaled up kettle.
Must find that picture of the custom paint I did on my 550J back in 1975.........
Proof that four strokes are over complicated
