Never bothered with dowty washers, just put an "o" ring on the shank of the 11 large head bolts, when the bolts are torqued down the plain washer squeezes the o ring between the bolt and bolt hole and it's a perfect seal. No water can get past, job done. Cheaper, simpler and prettier.
What you gonna do with all those dowty washers now Kev?
Look, my paintwork hasn't got "Fish scales" :x they're "Dragon scales" right!!! However, after some thought, I will accept "Black Marlin" or "Swordfish", but definitely not "Haddock" or "Cod".

I seem to remember that Suzuki originally incorporated an "o" ring into the plain washers on the 11 large head bolts and over the years these perished and weren't replaced, hence water getting into the holes and then the problems with rust. Just put another "o" ring on the bolt, you can't see it like the dowty washers and the problem's solved cheaply and easily.

That's certainly the way to go Steve.
reason for my enquiry is that I'm gonna order a set of those lovely stainless head bolts that Mark does, via e-bay. the ones on the bike look bad and I don't want to just paint them!
Thought I'd get some washers at the same time, but your idea is better ,even thought the bike will seldom see any rain!
cheers
