Gt125

Post by andygt750m »

Any love for the 125 on here ? I’ve either got or had most GT models but I’ve never had a 125 , I’ve been watching project bikes recently and the 125 project seems to be on the up financially , some basket case bikes going for close to a grand , they must have been rare back in the day , a 185 probably didn’t cost much more and a 250 was probably within the grasps of most 17 year olds

Nice little bikes - you didn't see many back in the day so quite rare now I've got its big brother the GT185A and it's a cracking little bike to ride - the 125 is quite a bit smaller though and of course lacks the electric boot but most parts are avaiable if you fancy restoring one

I fancied a smaller bike and bought a 2 owner GT125 with just 1,500 miles in 2014

Had the frame powder coated and some re-chroming but didn't touch the engine

Seat is original as is the paintwork and tried to leave alone as best I could

Did change the consumables however (it had the original Inoue tyres) and now runs like a new bike

Does need to be revved though!

I remember when I was younger and an older friend had a new gold GT125

Couldn't understand why he thrashed the poor bike everywhere

Now I have one I get it, doesn't go until 7,000 and then shoots round the clock to 10,000rpm!

The 185 is exactly the same - it loves being thrashed I think that's what they were designed for my original one that I bought as a seventeen year old back in 76 brand new was thrashed mercilessly and seemed to thrive on revs !
