Sure you're aware Baz, but if you get good starting from cold, and poor running one one pot as the bike warms - but runs ok over half revs - the choke plunger has stuck open on that (relevant) carb. I had that in winter 1973/4 on my 550J (separate carbs) which was less than good as it happened at work when it was snowing and the ride home as the engine warmed and dropped onto 2 pots at low revs, but no.3 chimed in as I opened up on a slippy road was 'interesting' to say the least!
Summat to think about with any Suzy triple with non-linked carbs and separate chokes to all 3 carbs.

Good work Baz,

Surging was obviously detected in the early days of the L model when the CV carbs were introduced because didn't Suzuki then introduce anti-surge jets to help solve the problem. If the surging was none existent on the J/K models surely it would have made sense to revert back to the individual Vm carbs

Hope its a permanent fix for the surging and probably only time will tell, mine doesn't surg that badly but when it does its so frustrating.

See you soon maybe at the Ponderosa

I think they had a few reasons for going CV jeff Came as a complete block from Mikuni no setting up, better fuel consumption self-balancing better emissions etc but as Allen says maybe not the best idea for a 2 stroke engine.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is this 'surging'? Can I expect to experience it on my 750L?

First ride on my Kettle was awful nearly through me off :x
What i have found to eliminate it was make sure sprockets, chain in good order and adjusted correctly also cush drive rubbers are fine ease the the throttle off through the gears leaving a tadge load on the the output drive shaft works for me ;) No bucking

Just when we thought FINALLY was final someone has gone and posted this on an "alternative" Kettle forum, i mean WTF :?: :?: :?:

Surging on the overrun on a 1972 J/K model.
My J/K model with amal type carbs surges badly on the overrun.
Where should I look first ?
The engine has just been rebuilt with a 'new' crank. The pistons and rings are original so far as I can tell, with good compression. An Accent ignition has been fitted with timing done with a dial guage. The carbs have been synchronised carefully.
The bike runs well in every respect other than horrible surging on the overrun which spoils the enjoyment of riding it.
