Re: Yet more charging problems
Right... put a different genny on..put a new earth wire from electric panel to battery earth, bolted to the earth from reg/rec...charging 14.5 lights out, 13.5 on...However, I didn't have the lights on in the shed, and noticed sparks where the brushes are touching the rotor rings...I have not noticed this before, it may well have been doing it, don't know.....Is this normal?

Re: Yet more charging problems
I've no idea if this might help but have a look at this previous post on making sure the green wire is properly insulated. Kev

Have you still got the original regulator and rectifier?

Re: Yet more charging problems
No....when we got the bikes, they were in bits and most electrical stuff was missing, so put modern rec regs on...mine has never given a problem with charging...till today!!!!!
Just put new rotor on mine....13volts lights on or off.....rollocks!!!!!

That is, to say the least, bad luck
If you like, I can lend you a standard rectifier and regulator set to see if this eliminates the problem. PM your address if that's what you would like to try. Kev

Re: Yet more charging problems
I've used the Oregon electronics regulators with excellent results and left the late model stock rectifiers in place. Unless your regulator/rectifier unit has now failed, the problem may be elsewhere.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Now you are talking, maybe you need to park a four stroke between them.
