550L no spark on left cylinder

Post by Rich100 »

Hi Guys,
Hope someone can help me as i’m At the end of my tether.
Started the bike 2 days ago for the first time in a few months and it would only run on the centre and right cylinders.
After a lot of checking and head scratching i am at this point so far.
Points have been replaced and iv’e swapped the condensers so i know this is all okay the coils have been replaced with new units from Rex’s speed shop so good quality ones.
At the moment if i put my multimeter on the points connector when they are open i get a good healthy reading on centre and also on the right but nothing on the left so i am very confused as i’ve Literally checked everything unless there’s something I’ve missed.
Any ideas would be gratefully received :D

Yes, you've definitely missed summat.
Try doing what I suggested earlier when we had a chat. Failing that, fetch it here and I'll sort it.

Make sure you have the insulating washer on the points connection in the right place. It is dead easy to get it wrong and it earths the points

Thanks for the advice Kev, all okay on the points front as it turns out mate it was a faulty coil :o .
Would you credit it, there’s a lesson to be learnt here never take things for granted, just because its shiny and new doesn’t automatically mean it will work :tw .
Anyway on the up side JohnH and his dad Brian took the bike and Alan chipped in with some useful advice all helped to sort it. I was at my wits end and now i have a nice running bike and a smile on my face. It’s all good, and now i’m Lighting the barby and having a few beers, does it get any better.

Cheers all,

Rich.
