I don't recall, but if you've got it in bits, you could work it out empirically by firing the starter for a moment. Which way does it turn? the idler reverses the direction and the meshing with the clutch out reverses it once more.

thats exactly what i did Mike , phew ! its right ! tomorrow its reassembly and end of starter motor woes ( touch wood lol)
