First start info please...pic
Well Iam finally ready for my first start up after the restoration you guys have helped so much with.
Iv soaked the oil filters and wrung them out well.
Ok
Which fuel do you recommend ?
Someone metioned adding a little oil to it what sort of ratio? ( castrol power 1 2T clean burn)
Turn on prime for a while then onto run.
Choke on
Any need to put a little fuel in the heads via spark plugs?
Any thoughts welcome
Ian

A little oil in the fuel won't go amiss ( I never bother measuring this, just pop a smidgin in the fuel) and it's not a bad idea to pop some fuel in the plug holes, might just help get it running quicker. This is all I have done with my restos with good results

I did it like this. Put a 'bit' of 2T oil in a 1 litre feeder tank and straight into the carbs. I or 2 grades hotter plugs in for first startup.
With main tank and air filter off, squirt a bit of easy start into the carbs and hit the button. Finger on the choke lever when it fires and keep the revs down.
I had over oiled everything inside the motor and washed all the crank segments in diesel (in situ) so all engine internals were very oily.
After about 15 minutes, in a perfect world, the clag clears and the engine settles down. In reality, the carbs may have to come off and blow carb cleaner through all orifi and try again!
Use ordinary petrol, or 98 octane if you're flush.
Personally I wouldn't put any fuel down the plug 'oils, the easy start will sort it.

Hi all
Well we gave it a go on Monday . Turned on prime choke on. Turned it over on Off switched it On and it fired up with the next press!
Big smile on my face.
Centre manifold leak plus shifting cam stopper not located ment it was stuck in neutral.
New gear display only shows Neutral and 1
Iv checked the sender and lead all fine .
Power is constant so I earthed out each pin .
I only get N & 1
I JB welded the display in place after asking them if it conducted electricity they said it was fine.
Iam going to order another one from China!
Hay ho !

Earth each connection (at the sender - gearbox end) and see if anything else works. If not, the display is knackered.
Plenty of cheap chinky 'OEM!!!' on eblob. You may have to slightly rewire to conform with original bike wiring.
