Timing woes

Post by pinkwaferwalrus »

Rebuild of my 550M nearly complete and now need to set the timing. The P.O. fitted a Boyer system (KH250) but there are no timing marks visible. I can make my own using a dial gauge but the problem is that the only thing I can measure against on the crank is the rotor which is so small (circa 50mm dia) I will struggle to get any accuracy. I am wondering if it might be better to strobe against marks made on the alternator as it is bigger but cant see how? How hdo others get accurate timing using Boyer ignition kits? Any suggestions? Cheers.
