Hi Can any one help me. NOW you havn't got to M O T old bikes. Do you still have to M O T it when you apply for a number plate [new reg import]
been on dvla and can't seem to find any answers.

Hi Ray
It goes around in a circle I think. Your bike has to be registered to tax it (historic or otherwise) and I don't think you can declare it MOT exempt unless you are taxing it. So, if you don't have an MOT, you can't register or tax it so can't declare it MOT exempt......I think Kev

IMHO i would just get it through MOT saves messing about and for your peace of mind.

Hiw old is it? If after 1978 you have to pay tax & mot.

Below is a post from the Yam A/c forum, it seems you no longer need to get an MOT on the chassis number to register a bike that's over 40yrs old now -
"I have just registered a ‘76 US import, sent off V55/5, nova certificate, copy of driving licence and cheque for £55. I didn’t insure or MoT it and the V5C came back today less than 2 weeks after sending it off. Declared as historic vehicle on V5 with arbetory date of first registration of 1st Jan 76, UK 1st registration Jun 18"

Don't send the previous logbook as dvla will keep it.
