That will look nice when done but it will possibly make the rest of the bike look untidy. That's what happened on my first ever restoration, rebuilt engine looked stunning but the bike, in my mind looked great when I got it, looked tatty compared to a nice shiny engine so I had to make the bike look as shiny as the engine. Wallet got a good moth clearout in the process but it did look rather good in the end.

Good luck with the new engine.

Great to see my engine rebuild has commenced. The last few weeks have been spent tidying other areas of the bike in readiness. It is unrestored so a bit to do. Lots of parts have been either zinced or polished. Cleaned into all the hard to get to places. So I am hoping the bike does the engine justice.

Harry bike is going to look great! Did you and Baz ever come to an agreement as to what actually happened ? Or is it still a mystery?

Still a bit of a mystery Barney. 40 years and 20,000 miles have taken their toll. 550's are known for the LH cylinders to fail from overheating, hence the larger jet to the LH only. The broken metal in the barrel looks like a bit of broken piston ring. Baz may correct me but I don't think any of the old rings are broken though. So no definitive cause yet, unless Baz has found anything I don't know about.

Looking good isn't it Barney. Exciting times ahead. At least its not too cold in the garage yet as there will be a bit of time to spend refitting it along with all the other bits I've removed. I had better message Baz and see about collecting it.
