SCEM - Japan Nikasil

Post by tato81 »

Has anyone done Nikasil (scem) in Japan? I have the possibility to send my cylinders there. The price is ok. My mechanic sends his cylinders only there. He has worked in Japan for 7 years. He fixed 2stroke engines there. What do you think about it? Langcourt or Japan?

Try Sean Hadley at the" tuning works" he runs the rgv250 forum and replates the barrels,he takes the cylinders and pistons and returns the barrels and Pistons dressed and ready for fitting, he's familiar with the gt barrels,

If you want a fourth more radical solution, PJME in Wolverhampton will sleeve the existing bores with iron sleeves, keeping the original ports including the schneurle ports, which means you can then use standard 550 pistons and rings which are a fraction of the SCEM specific versions. You even gain a rebore option in the future. About the same cost as replating, £150 per cylinder.

Is this solution good? Nothing wrong? Barrels don't swell?

Alan, when will you visit me? :D I invite you to my garage for the weekend.
You suggest to mount iron barrels?

Sorry Tato - I keep going on holiday, so a visit might be difficult!
(Mediterranean cruise soon, then Malta for a scuba diving holiday soon after, and another one later this year in Madeira - Being retired is VERY hard work.)
Mike's bike seems OK, and ran sweet after we stripped and rebuilt the motor last week though, so the sleeved bore options seem good.
Mike will be reporting more when he gets back, hopefully.

Which barrel do you have the problem with? I forget.
