Re: 550 forks
This confirms both hubs have same part number
https://www.partzilla.com/product/suzuki/54100-31830
Although as usual it had its number changed from 54110-31001.
The steering stems are different though
550j top 51311-34001
Bottom 51410-34000
750j top 51311-31000
Bottom 51410-31001
So i think its safe to say its the steering stem and top bracket that are different.

Re: 550 forks
Think the brake plate are the problem, looking at the videos that barney01 posted the the cone in the middle of hi looks lower than on mine
see attached photo. as a last resort i could machine 10 mm off each one then it would fit.
Would rather have the correct on fitted.
The gap between the straight edge and the top of the brake actuators is aprox 3mm

Re: 550 forks
We did this earlier on.
http://www.kettleclinic.co.uk/kcforum/v ... s&start=20
In that thread it says that 750 drum forks are 185mm ctr to ctr. You definitely have a 750 wheel in 550 forks. Or disk brake model triple clamps (yokes)
Maybe it's time to define all those differences and get Ian Sandy to post a summary on his Old Japanese Bikes website or on the Pinkpossum site.

Re: 550 forks
So just been into garage and i think your brake plate does look higher. I have measured mine and the top of the cone to the brake plate is 14mm. It is possible yours has been modified to fit another bike. A lot of classic racers buy these up and fit them into Brit bikes. I once saw one in a Bonneville. It would be possible to weld a peice onto the cone and polish it. Just sayin'

Re: 550 forks
Or just stainless tube type spacers. They don't rotate, so should be fine. Welding those brake plates might make them warp.

Re: 550 forks
According to what I discovered on this site, GT750 is brake assembly is 175mm across the hub and 550 that I measured is 155mm or 20mm different. A 550 hub will fit in a set of 750 forks, but a wide 750 hub will not fit between a set of 550 legs. Too fat to fit.
I also reference to a narrow hub on a 750 with spacers either side and that would have to be a narrow 550 width hub fitting into wide 750J forks.
At least that's how it's looking so far. If tredown could measure his brake assembly that would confirm that he has a 750 brake and not a 550.

Re: 550 forks
I take it the fork stanchions are straight have you tried to loosen the four pinch bolts and turning the stanchions half a turn.
