So the J must have had the high top carbs then same as this K -it's also got angled ends on the throttle cables and looking at various pictures it seems as if the K had both high and low top carbs fitted to them as the angled cable entries only appear to be used with high tops - the last K I had used the low tops and alloy slides as does my L

My 550J had high hat carbs and metal elbow on throttle cable. The slides were brass too. That picture posted by Paul is of 'low hat' carbs.

These are the carbs on this particular T500K - the bike doesn't seem to have been messed about with as it still has the angled cable guides

Ah right, I can see the difference now (you learn summat every day) my J was a very early one (1971) and I’m fairly sure it was original although you can never tell with old bikes

The carbs off my T500K with coated alloy slides

I use the stick on one from Halfrauds John as the last time I put the original ones back on the tank Leached a small amount of fuel from the seam which pooled in the trim and ruined a brand new paint job - the tank had never leaked before - so I have now got a few sets of the original trims for sale if anyone wants them - I will never put the clip on ones anywhere near my T500'S again
