Exhaust baffles.... gt380..

Post by Dbailey »

So still chasing my vibration and my lack of top end performance... so I finally this evening decided to tackle the challenge of removing the exhaust baffles. To my amazement all of the bolts came out and the baffles slid straight out. Not blocked at all but there isn’t any wadding wrapped around them... Is this normal? I seem to remember that performance was dependant on the exhausts offering some back pressure...

Thanks

Two schools of thought as ever on here ! Just about everyone seems not to bother with the wadding. None of mine have it including my 380 and it runs just fine, Kev

AFAIK the wadding was just added by Suzuki to appease emission laws at the time. One thing I do know is, if fitted, it quite quickly becomes matted and oily and will choke the engine. Some people like the muffled sound so you can still buy it from Yambits if you want to.

Have you thought about balancing the carbs? If they are not sync'd that could cause the symptoms you describe.

Are there any vacuum ports on the gt380 carbs to connect a manometer to?

Thanks

There are no ports to connect the manometer to, and the general feeling is that they dont function too well on these carbs. IMHO the best way to balance the carbs is to use an airflow meter. You can of course use the manual method.
Here is an airflow meter in use on a 550 seperate carb but the principal is the same

Just in case you don't have it
