Oil

Post by AlanB »

Hi, what is a suitable grade Fork Oil to use in the GT 550 Forks.
I see the spec is for SAE oil but was thinking in the range of 10/15 W ?

I've just done a search on here,,
Alan H recommends 20W/50,
as he knows the GT550 well I'd go with that advice ;)
Cheers.

You have a choice really. Like the old days put 20/50 oil like the manual says. Same as the gearbox. Some people me included prefer modern 10 w specialised fork oil made for the job.
It's up to you but make sure you use exact amount as too much will make damping hard and too less too soft :D

230 to 240 in each leg all models. The 160cc is for 750.
Remember SuzukI is famous for mis-prints in some manuals :D

My 550A is 160cc each leg. The later model 550's are the same as the 750. Manuals such as Haynes show 235cc but this is not correct for the later models. The owners handbook that came with my bike says 160cc so I believe this is correct. I did initially put 235cc in my bike and the forks were solid. Had to drain and refill with 160cc.
