gt550 front brake issue

Post by Bonnylad »

1996 gt550 front brake has very little power. Overhauled master cylinder and caliper. But on the road hardly stops the bike. re sealed many times now cheesed off.

They stopped making GT550s in 1977, so what exactly have you got?
Is the master cylinder not doing its job, are the pads/slave cylinder not too good, or is the disc in need of work?
A nice Bandit master cylinder can be picked up cheaply and will run single or double discs very well.

Opps 1976 bike getting mixed up with another in family.
New seals in master and caliper. hydraulic bled system, showing no air leaks but so inafective unbelievable, this is ongoing for some time.

Hi,is the moveable pad sliding through the pad carrier only partially, I've had them stick & not make contact with the rotors on my GT750A
Cleaned everything and a smear of grease on the carrier arm & the pad slid back & forth with no problems, take care not to get grease on the face of the brake pad
You could still have a problem with the master cylinder or the brake line its self !
Cheers.
