Hi everyone
I have almost finished my GT550 (1974) but have an issue with the red ignition light not working, it seems to be connected to a relay in the headlight bowl but the red and yellow wire is not connected to anything, I cant find it on wiring diagrams, can anyone enlighten me.

Here is the link for the wiring diagram

So I've never heard of any sort of relay in the headlamp bowl? I'm surprised there is any room. Must be an addition perhaps by the P.O. ?

I thought that the only Suzuki two stroke with a charge light was the GT185

Re: charge light / ignition light
If you get a chance, could you post a photo of the offending item?
I believe that bikes for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) were obliged to have a light that came on when they exceeded a certain speed (maybe 55mph). A chap on the Yamaha Enduros forum had a near identical issue as yours on his DT250A and the fuse for his warning light was also in the headlight shell/bucket. What added humour to his situation was that he did have an original wiring diagram, but it was in Japanese!
If you want the light to work, I guess you need to see if there's any additional wiring into the speedo.
I hope that this helps.
edit - just seen your location and this makes a JDM bike more likely. Or maybe Australasia got the JDM model?
edit edit - a couple of photos attached showing what I'm referring to (and just in case, the one on the Yamaha is not the high beam light - that's in the tacho!).

Hi Ray not sure what you mean by this as my 550 "L" has only the green neutral light when ignition is tuned ontheredbaron wrote:

Yep, my money is still on a warning light for exceeding a certain speed. However, I don't know enough about the history of your specific bike or what models the Australasia market got in general to be able to add anything else.
I read somewhere that cars of the same era in Japan got a buzzing or beeping in the cabin to warn the driver of excess speed - bikes got the red light as an audio warning probably wouldn't be heard.

Re: charge light / ignition light
The speed warning light was fitted where the chrome Suzuki S badge is fitted to blank off the hole on U.K.models
