Dual gt 550 disc brakes help

Post by wents75 »

Hi peaps
Ok my 550 M has the one disc & caliper. Id like to sort out another set as per the optional upgrade from new.
Q Do I just need the 750 left hand disc & caliper plus a 750 master cylinder/cables ?
Thanks

It is possible to use a 'normal' right hand caliper. I did that on my 550. If a 750 left caliper is not available..

AFAIK, there was never a twin disc upgrade for the GT550, the early models would need a right lower fork leg, disc, piework, left caliper and a master cylinder with D stamped underneath (dual disc with bigger piston). The later models wouldn't need the fork leg of course. OR you could get another standard disc and a pair of GS1000 calipers as they are better (twin piston) and cheaper, plus a bandit 1200 master cylinder which has a better brake switch - then pipe to suit. Have a look at the 'Earwig' thread for details and pics.
