Feeling badgy

Postby canaletto5 » Sun Nov 19, 2017 1:05 pm

One of the most tedious bits about sprucing badges up is the masking off part. So. I've pinched a technique from my model making days.

So, paint on liquid mask for the bits I need to keep clean. paint the badge, peel off the liquid mask, polish the bits to remove overspray. Now ready for the orange glitter infill

What was a half hour job now takes ten minutes. I know I'm not going to be the first to use this technique but someone might benefit. Kev

Bake at 80c for 30 minutes and serve to the sound of "Do you have to put those things in the oven, the whole house smells now"

no secret Paul, I talked about it on another thread

The proportions I ended up with give a deeper orange colour and a good proportion of sparkle

These are :

10ml of resin/hardener

0.3 ml of orange candy dye (you need a 0.2 ml pipette for this)

.3g medium size metalflake (you need a jewellers scales for this) Or just go for two good pinches.Keep stirring the mixture whilst applying to keep the metalflake well dispersed

I’ve got a set of very rare 750J tank & side panel badges you can practice on if you want? They look a LOT better in the pic than they actually are btw
I borrowed Alan H’s red nail varnish to do the job
