Sissy Bar/racks

Post by johnakay »

from today I will not be able to supply Sissy Bar etc in chrome etc.
due to the chroming company having problems with their chroming tank being knackered they and with low orders they have decided to to call it a day.
they will not invest any more money.
what a bl**dy timing ,I was considering retiring altogether at the end of the year.
I will be getting my state pension by then.
I can still supply in bare metal but that is it.
I can get it powder coated in silver but I doubt anyone would want that..
so now you know. :(

Agbriggs in Leeds do lots of chroming and just bought a new bigger chroming tank.
I've used them a few times and really happy. Sean (the owner) talks a lot of sense.
Yes, I know it's a long way from Stockton, but TNT know the way!

its the cost that I'll be concerned about.
currently I sell my Sissy Bar etc based on what punters will pay.
I need to make enough to live on.
I was selling a grab rail a GT750 for £85 coz that was what they were willing to pay
if I put it up to what ever the chromers charge then it wont be far off to what crooks are selling them for.
last time I ask they said £193 plus shipping.
we'll just have to see how things go.
not many will pay a lot for a Sissy Bar etc even if they are rare as hens teeth but quite happy to pay £30 or so for a badge.
I once ask another chromer a couple of years ago and they wanted £60 to chrome 1 grab rail.
they wene not interested in me doing the polishing..
they've since closed down so I dont know what the going rate is at the moment.

after ringing and seeing some chromers etc.
the local ones even though they advertise chroming but longer do so due the the new regulation regarding chemicals.
some want to much.
Alan 'H' suggested agbrigg ,they agreed to do them at a more favourable price.
not to say that I can sell them for the same price as before, the price will go up by about £20/£30.
this going to be a one off .
once these are sold out that will be the end of it all as far as chromed rails go.
I may continue to make bare rails etc but if these are poor sellers then I will call it a day.
I'll retire altogether and be a man of leisure . ;)

I've just retired, but I'm still waiting for the leisure bit to kick in.
I've been busier with 'stuff' since I finished work!

Glad to have helped with the Agbriggs suggestion BTW.

John, didn't like to say anything until now, but I think your chromers tanks had been knackered for a while. I have one of your racks, bought late last year via a friend, and the chrome on it wasn't the best, quite a few imperfections in fact. the fabrication is spot one, so it was a shame the chroming wasn't up to par. I was having shed load of bits rechromed anyway, so I just shoved the rack into the box with the other bits. I use Marque Restore in Coventry.
