I lived on a boat for a few years and if I was moored in town used to get the usual "drunk trade" come closing time, their favorite trick was to untie the mooring ropes Simple things.............
Why not get a motion detector camera, you may catch the scrotes then?

Shotgun cartridge tripwires scare the life out of them. Take pellets out of cartridges though.
