Another road tax free Year?

Post by nairb123 »

I presume the roll forward of the road tax free year will roll forward again in April 2017. Which means a vehicle made/registered before 1st Jan 1977 will be tax free.

Which will be good news since my mongrel gt550A is a 1976 bike. So if the roll forward is still working then in May 2017 the 550A will be back in the motoring world after its mot. 2 more years and the gt380 will also qualify.

My GTs are all 1st registered spring / summer 1977. Does that mean I should expect them to go tax free from April 2018? The GT750A tax would be due that year on 1st April....what is the April cut off date?
Thanks,
Mike

Unfortunately yes Mike. The Hippo is a '77 and won't get free tax until next year.
The cutoff date as I understand is that it has to be registered before 1st April 40 years ago, so if yours are say May or later, then free next year.

Historic vehicles

Vehicles made before 1 January 1976 are exempt.

So as usual DVLA aren't sure.

But it's now 2017 so it should move on a year.
So it looks like it has to be historic from before the first of January, 40 years ago, not the 31st on March.
I know the Hippo won't count until April 2018 anyway.
