Yes, I had a similar reply, and after a LOT of really bad language and (neighbour's) cat kicking, I cleaned the 'old' BW one way thingymajig in diesel and after a good wipe, replaced it where it came from. Filled with MINERAL oil and it's been ok for 2 years. Try it, you may be lucky.
