Moving on......this week I have mostly being playing petrol tanks...
As usual I wanted it to be different.....I wanted a split tank with a pot for the oil under one cap (I am keeping the mechanical oil pump).
So as the base frame is a VFR that seemed like a good start point as I also like that the VFR tank hinges up from the back to access the carbs.
So starting with this...
The filler cap has overflow pipes routed to the base so I wanted to keep those so I just cut and moved it left a bit.
Now hack another cap section from another tank and weld a oil pot to the underside with a tube sticking through the base.....
and on the bike......
Side shot of the mock up build. I've still got additional engine mounts to weld into the frame which is the next big job but I just wanted to get a feel for how the tank looks.
I've also done some work on modify Suzuki 1200 bandit clocks to take the electronic displays (basically made whole new bodies but kept the shiny chrome bits) and will probably run twin LED headlamps. Just gotta find the right look.
So time to get the filler out and finish the tank. Still waiting for the ported barrels back (aaargh!) before I can finish the frame welding.
Most of the rest of it kinda fits now though.
I also did a mock run of the electric (fuel - old post mistake) WATER pump and hosing and with a neat mod to the water jacket inlet the pump is hidden and the main hose routes underneath so all the plumbing is nearly invisible.
