That looks good. Early crankcases I see.

Or you could take a cut off wheel to the crankshaft to shorten it, and fit a flat plate in place of that modified side cover. And since you won't need that sexy carbon fiber air cooled clutch cover, you can send it to me to cover "consulting fees".. Ah well. It was worth a try. ;)

Yes Richard, it's based on a "J" motor.
The carbon cover is a cheap Chinese copy for a Ducati that I never used on my DB3. Yours if you want it.

Hi Garry,

Just an observation but how are you going to lubricate the right hand crankshaft bearing if you are running a dry clutch. If my memory serves me right the gearbox oil lubricates one of the bearings.

Regards

Martin.

That was what I was implying as that bearing will need wetting somehow!
If lubed from the inside, it'll need an oil seal and seal holder which I don't think is present.
However, a chap who can chop up a motor can easily solve for this, I've no doubt!

Martin & Mike
there will be a cover (yet to be made), housing a seal that fits between the outer face of the primary gear and the rear of the clutch basket. There is also an oil seal incorporated within the clutch basket drive unit that prevents oil seepage down the outside of the input shaft. So nothing changes on the inside of the cover - lubrication will be as standard except for the input shaft, which is plugged at the clutch side end. On the outside of the cover, if it works, it will be dry.

not a lot today - plugged the oil galleries that feed the l/h side (where the water pump/ tacho drive gears live) using a metal putty applied from both sides.

from the outside................

and inside....................

also dispatched a spare clutch cover to a company that specialises in water-jet cutting of aluminium to have what amounts to a "full" gasket produced out of 4mm sheet. Saves me from having to do a a lot more drilling / shaping / filing :D
