With our ferry prices it's an expensive trip Alan,how do these bikes compare to the 750 to ride as I do quite fancy one to add to the collection.

On the island, much better.
550s like twisties especially if tweaked like my 'Earwig'. The 750 is better if you want 2 up touring, otherwise IMO the 550 is the better bike.

Alan,the GT550 may not like Your current heat wave...best stick to the Liquid Cooled Bike,
Mine never missed a beat on the Nullabor Plain back in the Summer of 1976..40c in the shade The other bikes "protested" were Suzukis,GS750 & a T500,
both suffered from loss of power due to the heat of the day
