there was very little damage to johns bike, the pan has a built in crash bar so if the bike goes over only the crash bar is on the ground, the bar has a plastic cover and that has split thats all. How ever I am still traumatised as was just a few feet behind John and when he went down his back wheel spun 3 tiny drops of oil on my fairing before tending to John I had to immediately clean it off, the whole episode could have easily turned me to drink. I know most of you are concerned but i am fine the oil didn't stain my bike.PaulD738 wrote:Never mind all this talk about cracked ribs and other minor ailments etc

That's such a relief Richard. However, please don't be complacent. PTSD can strike days or weeks after. If you find yourself being helpful, or kind to people, or even if you offer to buy a round, these are dangerous symptoms and you must seek professional help immediately.itsnotateapot wrote:there was very little damage to johns bike, the pan has a built in crash bar so if the bike goes over only the crash bar is on the ground, the bar has a plastic cover and that has split thats all. Re: Kettle Teapot Frying Pan Tour
Richard, you are playing it down, I thought it was at least 6/7 spots of oil......I know the temptation to have a drink after witnessing such a traumatic incident must be overwhelming, but keep up the good work and resist giving in, you know it makes sense.
Have had my local bike shop owner up to have a look at the damage, as said they are a tough ole bike.It appears that the crash bar protecting the engine has done its job, but has bent in the process, and pulled the lower fairing away from its fixing points. The cover is smashed, and will need replacing.
Now if we had been on a Kettle, the damage would have been far worse.
He also advised replacing our crash helmets as a precaution, as we both went down from upright, with a good bang onto the metal deck. Your opinions on this will be read with interest.
My jacket is scuffed/damaged on the left sleeve, and showing oil stains in several places. We were both wearing Kevlar jeans, luckily enough, which are also scuffed and destroyed with oil/ diesel.
So next time you see us we will be sporting some shiny new gear courtesy of Fritz , I hope.

Of course, it could have been much worse. It could have been one of us.

Re: Kettle Teapot Frying Pan Tour
Sorry to hear of this mishap John..glad you are both not to badly hurt
If it had been a Kettle it most certainly turned out a different story
Alan,it won't happen too me..unless I catch the Ferry to Tasmania with a Kiwi traveler doing a similar job with the oil dropping
