I just checked DVLA records online and sadly it appears not to have been taxed since it was last due in Jan 1984 which probably means it got written off (or exported) in 1983....

Or the tragedy is it could still be sat in the back of someones garage or shed .

good point Didge! as you say the trajegy is, if true, it may surface only when its owner dies....

I've got a cousin who still has the kettle he bought new in 1976 at the back of his garage, he reckons he hasn't even seen it for years cos of all the stuff on top of it, but he wont sell it to me, cos he says "whats the point of selling it, it aint hurting where it is.)
