Funny how life turns out

Post by canaletto5 »

I don't often post personal stuff (If at all), but I'm sure a lot of you folk have experienced the same thing as many of us are of a simliar vintage.

After leaving the forces, I trained as a civil engineering technician, specialising in waste water disposal systems, in particular public sewers (I know). It was actually quite interesting understanding the physics of how these systems worked and, as you can imagine, required a lot of on site presence wading through dark underground river-like environments wearing big rubber boots and hygiene suits etc.

One day, after many, many years of putting my heart and soul into the job, I suddenly realised I was just going through the motions.

Never mind eh?

Balderdash. I don't believe any of it. You're not civil at all.........
Sounds like a river of shi kak ordure to me.
I actually worked on lots of waste water sites as a Commissioning Engineer, so it seems we have more in common than you realised (sweetie.)
No shi you know what I mean.........

Kev,
Now I'm confused, because I don't know whether to believe a word of it. Forces, eh? dark horse. Catering Corps? 2 Para? as for sewerage, its very important. I just don't want to be involved!
Al, I know you were or are a commissioning engineer, because you can talk bolloxat length about almost any topic.
I like to celebrate the one thing we have in common. Spending money in the sometimes vain hope of finishing with a masterpiece. Ha ha! My dad always said I must have been a peasant because I am never happier than when filthy while making something shiny.

But in your case, I still struggle.........

Describing you as a boat, it would be more of a rough cut punt, I suppose.

None of it is true Mike (Apart from being ex-forces: Royal Navy as it happens). I just wanted to confect something so I could make the "going through the motions " joke. :P

With that lead in, I expected you to follow Kev's example with the 'pheasant plucker' poem. Sadly not to be by the looks of it, but here it is anyway....
'I'm not a pheasant plucker,
I'm a pheasant plucker's son.
I'll keep on plucking pheasants,
'Til the pheasant plucking's done.'

Now say it quickly a couple of times.
