Motobatt Batteries ?

Post by Roger Ackery »

Hi, my Motobatt showed the first signs of dying this morning or did it ?
It is 4 years old this November,I went to start the bike & only got a very slow turn over response from the starter motor cry:
Started all right from cold with the kick starter, tried the electric starter again & she spun like a top, burst into life & no more problems all day, what sort of life time should I be expecting from the battery. The charging system is ok & I overhauled the brushes in alternator & starter motor not that long ago :)Bike seems too be running a little rough ?
maybe the two are related,my experience with two strokes is they like a good battery ?
Cheers.

Hi Roger my motobatt lasted about 3 years and there was no bringing back to life. Next one I buy will be old style lead acid. At the moment I am running a sealed yuasa 7.0ah alarm battery, just using kickstart only and have no problems. Mine had the same symptom I thought it was my starter motor. cheers Dunc

Hi Rog. Did you do the usual checks with your multimeter? Measuring across the terminals before trying to start it up. Then measure with the engine running. Is there something on the bike that is not switching off or do you have a drain somewhere? Its worth remembering that if these motobatt batteries go below 30% charge they are scrap!

Hi, mine fouled the left plug on start up this morning, changed the spark plug, still not firing, gave all plug caps a spray with electrical contact spray & run on all 3 :P
build up of dirt inside the caps  battery still good, indicators work even at night a low idle.. see how long these batteries last, so far better than an acid battery :P
Cheers.
