Has anyone fitted kettle fork springs in an attempt to firm up the front end on a 550? A well used pair might not be too firm - any experiences?
Gary.

Hi,the Kettle springs are longer & stronger than those fitted to the GT550 to cope with the extra weight,Alan H will be along to explain the virtues of the GT550 over the Kettle

It is possible to firm up the front forks by slightly increasing the fork oil capacity.

Extra oil just makes the rebound more solid and a lot too much stops them working at all. Use 20w40 mineral oil, correct amount. It differs with the model.Puddlehopper wrote:Has anyone fitted kettle fork springs in an attempt to firm up the front end on a 550? A well used pair might not be too firm - any experiences?

Otherwise stop eating pies and get your weight down below 13 stone.
Hippos are better for fatties or 2 up riders - Lynn rides pillion on mine when touring, otherwise 550 is better.
By the way- a well used pair tend to be less firm and silicone implants are recommended for them.
