When I bought my J-model kettle, I already had noticed the rear right indicatortube (is there an English word for it?) had been "repaired" after the bike had probably fallen on that side.
The owner back then had found himself a retired welder from the docks who had gone blind and was missing both his hands.
Using a stick welder he somehow managed to "weld" the tube back on to the rear frame.
Since I know a little bit of welding myself, I had decided to cut the tube and weld it back on with my MIG welder.
First I had to cope with a big hole in the frametube.
From a piece of tube I made an insert, held it in place with a piece of copper wire through a predrilled hole and spotwelded it in the hole.
Upon checking the indicatortube I noticed one side had been previously grinded too far as it had become rather thin.
So I made a new one on my lathe.
Welded the new indicatortube back on and it looks like new to me!
Very happy with the result.

Just one of the '5 minute jobs' that come with old bike ownership.
