flat out revs! - throttle shut?

Post by popsyoshi34 »

Hi Guys,
I've been restoring my Dads GT750 and took the carbs off to replace the jets and give them a clean.

They've gone back on and the bike instantly goes to maximum revs on start up, without any throttle input.

The cables are not kinked and the carbs reflect the idle position - slides closed and the butterfly valve closed.
The carb boot rubbers are fine, and i can see no tears or other air leaks. There does however appear to be an oil weep on the left hand side of the engine between the cylinder and the case. I'm concerned that it may be a crank seal.

The engine ran fine prior to taking the carbs off for a clean up, what other things can i check?
Thanks
Scott

It could be a slide in the wrong way around and/or hanging up, or it has an air leak that would need a leakdown test to identify. Start with the carb slides.

Hey Guys, thanks for the responses - turns out it was a float with a hole in it, cheers.
