Re: IDLE PROBLEMS
Hi Alan,
Just messaged the seller over that relay you recommended and he said it'll only get hot if you exceed the rated amperage but he never answered my question about the coil being continuously rated.
Will it be ok?

That means he doesn't know. All I can recommend is that you get one and power it up on a bench for an hour. I would expect it to be ok, but actual proof is better! It's one of the wiring mods I intended, but never got round to doing.

Re: IDLE PROBLEMS
I fitted that same Halfords relay and it works perfect on my 550.

Re: IDLE PROBLEMS
And they are available from Panasonic as 20 amp micro relays from https://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec ... elays.html
You can probably source similar small format relays locally.
The key as Alan pointed out is to reduce the power going through old switches and thin old wires. With a relay the handlebar switches only crayy a tiny current so there's less voltage drop and a relay allows you to upsize the feed wire to the ignition and lights (2 relays).
And to add to the countless of hours of fum, if your GT has headlamps always on, you can wire a relay into the starter circuit so that when you press the button, the power to the lights is temporarily cut. That one is a Normally Closed type and it's easy to wire in if you have that situation.
