Has anyone experience of creating a top engine mount from the cylinder head on a GT?
I am designing a frame that uses the existing rear mounts on the engine but doesnt have any bottom or front mounts, so it is 'hanging' in effect.
Any experiences? Any better mounting location points?
Thanks
Kev

Re: cylinder head engine mounts
It would not be to hard to fabricate a top mount that is retained by the head sleeve nuts. Those heads are not very stiff.
A better solution might be to weld a mounting boss on the side of the cylinder block which is pretty thick and much stiffer. Many modern engines are located by a bracket bolted to the side of the head or barrels.
You could also use short front down tubes to pick up the front mounts.

Re: cylinder head engine mounts
Brilliant....that's where I have kind of ended up. My donor frame uses such a system so with some carefull ali welding I should be in good shape!
It should create a nice 'well hung' effect.
Next 2 hurdles are the GS gearbox implant which I think I have covered and the dry clutch issue which I definitely don't!
A couple of race setups make dry clutches and the bargain price of £3.5K!!! I need an alternative.......
Cheers
