Carburettor bowl screws

Post by Mr Bonehead »

Hi all, fired up my 1976 Gt 750 and had a few fuel leaks from 2 of the carburettor bowls ,going to replace all 3 but noticed a couple of screws are on the edge of threading so won't tighten up,I know everyone says no but could use some sealer and a drop of lock tight on the screw? , or try to 're thread if possible, the non leaky bowl was sealed ,any advice appreciated

Dont be tempted to seal the bowls. New Mikuni gaskets and the correct fuel level(1-2mm below the gasket surface) is the only answer. Anything else is just a bodge job.

Thanks for the reply barney01 ,the screws are ok it's the thread in the carburettor body that's a bit iffy

I’ve repaired them by filling up the threaded holes in the carb body with JB weld which is a so called liquid metal but it’s more like a paste. When it’s hardened off you can drill and tap the thread and use as normal.

You could try "super fix" , its a super glue and metal filings which can be drilled and tapped apparantly
