Re: oil leak help again
It's usually just the "O" ring that needs changing. A tip from Alan H is to fit a slightly oversize one to prevent further problems. Can be easily fitted in situ.

Ah, I see. I've never had to touch the inner one. I do have a dozen of the thicker O rings if you want to try one ?

Re: oil leak help again
That's unusual. Before the A model, the oil seal on the shaft wasn't even fitted and the O ring under the switch was all it took to keep oil in.
It is possible that the face of the rotary switch is damaged in some way, or the mating face on the crankcase might have a ding or a high spot that needs to be dressed out.
But it's also possible that a crank seal either side of the primary gear may be leaking and causing the transmission to become pressurized.

Might I suggest that you do a leakdown test anyway. Sometimes a seal may get nicked when fitted or there may be other reasons for a leak. Best to check and know for sure if the crankcase is being pressurized.

I tried all the things that everybody said. Thicker rubber seal and gasket compound. Day werk !
If you remember, I had an oil leak that I couldn't find for ages. Around the same area.
It sounds weird, but check the triangle plate that's screwed behind the clutch.
You maybe able to look where the starter motor is housed. Possibly easier, by the water union.
There's a hole where there's a screw (from the triangle plate), that might be missing. I don't know ?
And that was It ! !
Cheers Scotch.
ps, It was a simple fix when I knew, but a bastud to find as most of my "mates" who had great pleasure in tekkin' the urine of my leak. !
